Today, Wednesday October 28, it is eleven years ago that Sophia disappeared in Uganda.
An article appeared in the local news paper the New Vision, co-authored with Opiyo Oloya, who has a weekly column in the newspaper. A member of the Ugandan diaspora, he has lived in Canada for more than 40 years. He contacted us a year ago, after reading my article on ten years without Sophia. We have stayed in touch since then and he suggested to write a piece together for this October 28. I gladly accepted his offer, we can use all the help we can get.
The article can be read here:
NV 11 years without Sophia crop
It is not easy to live without Sophia all these years and the struggle to find answers can be quite lonely. Every day there is the confrontation with her absence; no child is as present as a missing child. Add to this the continuous insecurity about what happened, where is she? A life surrounded by question marks is not a peaceful life.
Time does not heal all wounds, some wounds actually grow larger and more painful as time passes.
We sincerely hope Opiyo’s suggestions will fall on fertile ground in Uganda and that it may finally lead to answers to the many, many questions we have about Sophia’s mysterious disappearance.
Sophia is missed very, very much.
